Tell me about respect

Prompt respect for Poets United

I struggled a bit with this one but I managed to squeeze out a poem :)

Tell me about respect

I took him to the attic of human virtues
In a dark corner, we dusted off some,
touched some. Than with glistening eyes
I softly cradled in the cup of my hand
the most dazzling of all…Respect

His eyes widened, looking puzzled
I picked up a mosaic sculpture
Look, there is a dark rough piece,
a petite pretty piece, a psychedelic
piece and a wicked wondrous piece

They are all valuable and fit in
the scheme of this stunning art
It’s the same with people
honour each one of them as
all have a place in the universe

Know that each soul
has a different purpose
some soften you with love,
some seep hope into your heart
some build on brokenness

Know that each soul
is in a different formative stage
one is like a caterpillar and the next
one sleeps in a cocoon of sorrow
one evolved into a blissful butterfly

If you soar the sky as a butterfly,
don’t look down
on the caterpillar
you once were. Wouldn't it be
gold, to t
enderly land on its leaf
and acknowledge each other

We all matter, wouldn't it be
a jewel, to ignore what divides us,
to find commonalities and connect.
Hold up your hands my friend

I pour in it my dazzling respect

  1. Respect is a two way deal, you must show respect to receive it yourself and accept that we are all different and others don't have to agree with us.

  4. Golly. I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes. I have gone with you to that tiny corner, picked up a living gem, and in it saw the entire world revered. After such a gift, I can only share it. Thank you.

  7. Ok. I think it's fantastic the way you "squeeze" out a poem. This one is so beautiful. It's message is so comforting, so full of wisdom and good spirit. I love the idea that "each soul is in a different formative stage," These words evoke compassion and love. I like this poem sooooo much!

  9. Respect is a quality that is , sadly,lacking in today's society.
I like the very clear message of your poem: don't look down on others, be kind and respectful to them. We all have a place in this world, we all matter; let's look for connection , not division.

  10. "We all matter" - Very important truth. Knowing this makes us all wonders. I know. Visit a Shriner Hospital for Children.

  15. We are all caterpillars...some don't make it to the butterfly stage for many reasons but they are all potential butterflies..and..it is not in the nature of a butterfly to look down...they just look ahead !

  16. "Know that each soul
has a different purpose "--i think, nothing can be more powerful and more important than this line! What a wonderful realisation and shift in the way to look at life!Loved it, Marja!

  17. Though you say you struggled, your poem flowed without difficulty. I found it interesting to look and see, exactly what I thought of as respect. Or what the word meant to me.

  18. Filled with tenderness and love. I like the mosaic cup, and the butterfly and caterpillar reference. There are those who too easily forget where they came from. This is a delight, Marja!

  20. Butterflies in the attic of human virtues. What a wonderful way of seeing and saying you offer us. None of us are complete and we all have room for change. Really like your squeezed out poem,

  23. Poem and picture go together so well. This is the verse that takes my attention:

    Know that each soul
    has a different purpose
    some soften you with love,
some seep hope into your heart
    some build on brokenness
